Fling, Flang, Floo!

A variation of Rock, Paper, Scissors, is Fling Flang Floo. Each player takes either evens or odds. You say together “Fling, flang, floo!” and on “floo” each player puts out his hand with any number of fingers outstretched. Add up the fingers on both players’ hands and if it’s an even number or an odd number, there’s your winner.

I am trying to figure out the geographical/cultural history of Fling, Flang, Floo. I grew up in Poland, Ohio, born in 1955. We used Fling, Flang, Floo to determine first up. My wife, from Greensburg, PA, had never heard of it. We moved to the Akron, Ohio area and I found that people my age raised in this area had never heard of Fling, Flang, Floo either.

The only other person on the internet that has referred to Fling, Flang, Floo was from Hubbard, Ohio – just north of Poland.

So, I would appreciate it, if anyone who is familiar with Fling, Flang, Floo would please email me at claw@neo.rr.com and let me know where they lived when the first heard of this ritual.

    Thanks for your time.

I came from Youngstown, OH and am remember fling flang floo well. Sounds like it’s a fairly isolated thing. At the time, I never heard of rock paper scissors.
